Bird suet

Bird suet provides a cheap and easy way to offer a high energy treat to your feathered friends. Suet is particularly popular in colder months when the extra fat is needed most by wild birds.

Suet for birds comes in a variety of shapes, sizes and mixes. All offer a high energy boost but some types benefit from specific feeders. To help you choose, here's a suet feeding guide:

• Fat balls - buy in tubs for secure and easy storage. Simply pop a few in a fat ball feeder and watch the birds flock and feast.

• Suet blocks & cakes - can be served in specific feeders or broken into chunks to put on a bird table.

• Suet pellets - do not require specific feeders. Scatter on the ground or combine with other feeds on a bird table.

• Suet mixes - suet is often mixed with berries, seeds, mealworms and other insects to enhance the nutritional value to wild birds. Test a variety to see what your favourite birds enjoy the most.
